The Blue Mountains National Park, located in the state of New South Wales, is easy to get to. Only 90 minutes from Sydney by car or rail, this location makes it a preferred place to visit for many Australians.
Part of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, it protects an unusually diverse range of vegetation communities. There are rare and ancient plants and isolated animal populations tucked away in its deep gorges. The Greater Blue Mountains Drive links a vast and spectacular World Heritage landscape and a number of national parks to the surrounding regions.
To the Conference Venue From Sydney
The conference venue, the Fairmont Resort in Leura, NSW, is approximately 90 minutes from Sydney, whether by car or train. The train station in Leura is a 5-minute taxi ride or a 25-minute walk from the Resort.
TO TRAVEL BY TRAIN:
Check the Cityrail schedule for "Blue Mountains Line", Central to Lithgow. The destination stop is Leura. (see website).
A standard one-way ticket is $7.80, or $15.60 return. Travel during off-peak times is less expensive, and Student and Pensioner rates also apply as appropriate.
TO DRIVE:
From the city, follow the signs to Parramatta. The M4 Motorway starts at Strathfield and takes you through to Lapstone in the Blue Mountains.
An alternative route to the Blue Mountains is via Bell’s Line of Road which starts at Richmond and takes you through to Mount Tomah and Bell, and across to Mount Victoria. This drive is extremely pleasant through the vast Blue Mountains National Park, a contrast to the main thoroughfare of the Great Western Highway.
TRAVELLING BY COACH (BUS):
Many coach companies offer day trips to the Blue Mountains. Coaches generally leave from Circular Quay in Sydney. Check with your travel agent or hotel for preferred coach companies, details of tours and costs.
